SEASON 2024

MR GRAEME BLUNDELL INVITES YOU!

"I've always loved the idea of stories that are sung"

"It's my great pleasure to take on the Chairmanship of Coast Opera Australia, which has in its short but enterprising life made a significant contribution to cultural life on the Central Coast. It is a pleasure to be working with the dynamic Angela Brewer, our powerhouse Artistic Director, who has done so much to establish this company, whilst welcoming to the team one of Australia's foremost young conductors as Associate Artistic Director, Mr Luke Spicer. We have some fine shows and events lined up following the hiatus of Covid. So here’s to new challenges and new excitements and some wonderful singing."

2023 SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

Highlights of our Season include an incredibly special and intimate recital from internationally renowned mezzo-soprano Deborah Humble who's voice is described as rich, velvety, radiant, and majestic. With over sixty operatic roles to her name, Humble is a sought-after artist with a versatility that is rare. Deborah will sing two stunning highlights from the Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures and Richard Wagner’s Wesendonck Lieder.

As we enter the new year, Coast Opera Australia is privileged to be hosting our Principal Artist, Viktoria Bolonina in the second recital of our “BACK TO BASICS” series. The Mezzo-Soprano will be exploring her Russian roots in song, bestowing attendees with a long awaited and exquisitely intimate experience with our fan-favourite artist. She will be delighting us with a smorgasbord of traditional Operatic Arias, famous Russian songs and a few well-loved contemporary works.

We are planning to present Gilbert and Sullivan in concert. Marvel at the linguistic wit and musical genius of  G&S and the doyens in English operetta highlights. Excerpts from The Yeomen of the Guard, Mikado, H.M.S Pinafore, Pirates of Penzance and Iolanthe, performed by the Coast Opera Australia Associate Artists.

We hope to be concluding our 2023 season with our first opera, Puccini's Gianni Schicchi. Set in an apartment in Florence, Italy, the family of the rich Buoso Donati has come to grieve his death… for about five minutes before they discover that Buoso has left most of his money to the church! There is surely only one man with the wit to possibly help change the will posthumously: Gianni Schicchi! Accompanied by the Coast Opera Australia and conducted by Mr Luke Spicer, this work features one of the most beautiful soprano arias ever written, “O mio babbino caro”. This laugh out loud, one act opera from the master of the genre is perfect for both opera veterans and those wanting to try it for the first time.
